Sydney Airport partners with Discovery Technology to launch first phase of new digital content platform

Sydney Airport has partnered with one of Australia’s leading location service providers, Discovery Technology, to improve the in-terminal digital platform designed to deliver an enhanced airport experience for passengers, visitors and staff.
Travellers can access a faster, free Wi-Fi service at T1 and T2, as well as engaging and targeted content via a ‘walled garden’ – including an extensive selection of information such as news; retail, food and dining offers; competitions; and the latest flight details – easily accessed via mobile devices.
In an airport first, Sydney Airport has integrated the Wi-Fi software with SCALA, sophisticated media software that allows brands to deliver relevant advertising, entertainment and travel specific content to travellers such as shopping, food and dining tips across a number of in-terminal digital screens.
Sydney Airport head of advertising and new media Martin Salter said the partnership with Discovery Technology ensures that the upgraded digital service for passengers at Sydney Airport is best-in-class.
“Technology is an essential part of Sydney Airport’s business and increasingly important to passengers seeking more choice, control and connectivity. We recognise the need to align with strong industry partners like Discovery Technology to ensure we’re delivering the very best digital experience to passengers. Our goal is to provide a premium media platform for both brands and passengers,” Mr Salter said.
“We’re excited about the improvements we’ve made to our in-terminal digital platform and how these will further enhance our passengers’ journey through Sydney Airport.”
The enhanced offering is part of a phased digital roll-out that continues to build upon the digital innovation at Sydney Airport, with further improvements and enhancements to be announced.

Sydney Airport is committed to delivering an exceptional airport experience and was the first airport in Australia to launch a free Wi-Fi service in 2010. In 2014, there were more than 4.8 million sessions on Sydney Airport’s Wi-Fi network, with 90% of people entering the airport with a mobile device.
Scala is one of the most advanced and widely deployed platforms globally. The integrated system ensures customers are delivered an experience that includes fresh content which is highly relevant, engaging and informative across a wide array of different types of screens.
