Freeview celebrates anniversary with launch of first FreeviewPlus certified PVR

Consumers enjoy more features and more control over their free-to-air viewing.

Australian TV viewers have more choice for free than ever before as FreeviewPlus marks its first anniversary with the arrival of the first certified Personal Video Recorder.

The aerialBox T2200 is the first PVR of its type in the world and can be connected to any digital television to access all FreeviewPlus services plus recording of an episode or series.

The aerialBox PVR enables viewers to record more than 250 hours of their favourite shows via the FreeviewPlus broadband-delivered TV guide.

FreeviewPlus has been at the forefront of the increasing consumer desire for ease of access to video on demand and is the only service to provide all free to air catch up services in one place.

“The arrival of the first FreeviewPlus PVR is an exciting development for Australian viewers, giving them even more flexibility and control over the viewing experience with the ability to schedule a single program recording or series,” Freeview CEO, Liz Ross, said.

“Dish TV is proud be the first manufacturer to bring both a FreeviewPlus-certified PVR and set-top box to the Australian market,” Dish TV’s Nipuul H Patel said.

“The dual tuner receiver boasts built-in Wi-Fi and an internal 1TB hard drive, allowing viewers to record two channels while watching a third, or even record a program while watching catch up TV,” added Mr Patel.

The aerialBox T2200 PVR is on sale nationally from today at appliance and electronics retailers including Dick Smith and David Jones.

Early indicators are very positive with FreeviewPlus penetration and usage accelerating as we now have four of the top-five manufacturers certified representing 83%* of all Smart TV sales.

“This is an exciting time in television. New services, interactive advertising, personalisation and social networking are all possible with this technology platform and we will continue to see more innovation in the near future from our free-to-air broadcasters,” Ross said.
