This year, Starlight Children’s Foundation needs your support to raise $1.5 million as part of its biggest annual fundraising event, Starlight Day on Friday 2 May 2014.
Held nationally, Starlight Day aims to raise much-needed funds to help Starlight 'Shine On' and continue transforming the hospital experience for sick kids and their families around Australia.
Starlight needs more than 2,000 volunteers to hit the streets on Starlight Day to sell Starlight merchandise and collect donations in shopping centres, central business districts and train stations.
Starlight Chief Executive Officer, Louise Baxter said: "We urgently need your help on Starlight Day to allow us to continue to transform young lives and lift the spirits of sick kids around the country.
"Starlight receives no government funding and relies on the generosity of the community to deliver programs that provide positive distraction and relief for thousands of children living with the pain of hospital life."
Starlight's innovative programs include Starlight Express Rooms run by Captain Starlight, which are medical-free havens offering an escape from the stress of hospital life, Starlight’s Wish Granting program, which recently granted its 8000th Wish, and Starlight's peer-to-peer adolescent support program Livewire.
Starlight Day merchandise including Starlight water bottles ($10), teddy bears ($10) and pens ($5) will be available in Big W stores exclusively throughout April, while volunteers will be on the streets on Starlight Day selling star post-it notes ($5), Shine On Kids DVDs ($10), Dinnertime! cookbooks ($30), Dinosaur Designs key rings ($5), flashing wands ($5) and more.
Individuals, corporations, schools and community groups are encouraged to get involved in Starlight Day, to donate, volunteer and help fundraise.
Starlight Day is proudly supported by EB Games and Big W.
