Thousands of volunteers needed this Starlight Day
Starlight calls for 2,000 volunteers this Starlight Day, Friday 6 May
Starlight Children’s Foundation is calling for thousands of volunteers this Starlight Day, Friday, 6 May to help raise $1.3 million to support more than 33,000 seriously ill children and their families around Australia.
Held nationally, Starlight Day aims to raise much-needed funds to brighten the lives of sick kids through the organisation’s uniquely Australian hospital programs which are in every children’s hospital nationally.
More than 2,000 purple and yellow-clad volunteers are needed to hit the streets around the country to sell merchandise and collect donations in central business districts, train stations and shopping centres.
Individuals, schools and community groups are also invited to volunteer or register to host a Star-BQ – a fundraising barbeque for Starlight – anytime during May to raise funds in their local community.
Starlight CEO Louise Baxter encourages Australians to get involved, saying: “Volunteers are vital to the success of Starlight Day and taking part in Starlight Day is a fun and rewarding experience.
“Our volunteers help us bring Starlight Day to life and in turn, they help Starlight to deliver fun, joy and laughter to thousands of sick kids and their families across Australia.”
Starlight receives no government funding and relies solely on the community to deliver its Starlight Express Room and Captain Starlight programs, which distract sick kids from hospitalisation through play and laughter.
In 2016 Starlight needs to open four new Starlight Express Rooms in Darwin, Sydney, Perth and Melbourne.
Starlight Day is generously supported nationally by EB Games and Big W, and is endorsed by Starlight’s celebrity chef ambassadors including Hayden Quinn, Neil Perry and Herb Faust.
