FIVE THINGS: WEDDING BELLS IN THE NT
Friday 10 May, 2019

Were you invited to the wedding of the year? Tourism NT teamed up with TODAY to invite every Australian to a very special Top End Wedding. Further afield, we investigate sightings of a giant Filet-O-Fish roaming around New Zealand, China's latest tourism venture and some cute canine globe trotters.

1. WEDDING BELLS IN THE NT
In true Territory style, Tourism NT has this week celebrated its involvement in the blockbuster Aussie romcom Top End Wedding by hosting its very own Top End Wedding - live on air with TODAY. The lucky couple were selected from more than 13,000 entrants and travelled to the tropical Top End with their nearest and dearest to tie the knot. Officiated by the one and only Richard Wilkins, the wedding was broadcast live for the whole of Australia to enjoy.

2. SHARK BAIT MEET SHARK BUS
Make no mistake, Auckland’s iconic shark bus was in fact spotted pursuing a car-sized McDonald’s Filet-o-Fish burger this week. The eye-catching stunt was conceived by McDonald’s and Uber Eats to celebrate the launch of its new McDelivery function. Naturally, it made a huge social media splash, hitting the front page of Reddit and gaining more than 100,000 likes.

3. AGE-DEFYING ACHIEVEMENTS
Leonardo da Vinci was anything but ordinary - he was a painter, architect, inventor and the ultimate ‘Renaissance man’. To mark 500 years since his death, CNN has created an interactive tool that lets you see what Leonardo da Vinci had already achieved at your age. While many of his achievements are literally age-defying, we think putting us to shame from beyond the grave takes the cake.

4. CHINESE TOURISM IS ROCKETING
Civilian space travel may still be uncharted territory, but China has still managed to cash in on space-themed tourism. Located on the edge of the Gobi Desert, entrepreneur Bai Fan has created a Mars-like habitat. The site currently hosts school tours and is the base for an astronaut reality television show, but it will soon expand into a Manhattan-sized resort. So… where can we book?

5. IMPORTANT TRAVEL PUPDATE
Do you have a pooch that loves long road trips, the wind in their fur and sniffing out new places? Booking.com is on the hunt for the world's first canine travel adviser. The lucky pup will help travellers pick their next pet-friendly holiday. And with 70% of Aussie pet owners preferring to travel with their pet rather than their partner, we think the lucky pup will have a ruff time keeping up with demand.
