FSM applauds 33 Postcards release in China
In what is regarded as the largest theatrical release of an Australian film in China, the arrival of 33 Postcards across 2000 Chinese cinemas and up to 8000 screens is a significant milestone for Sydney based FSM who were responsible for the post-production.
“33 Postcards was a wonderful Australian film to work on. It was shot in NSW and China, with a fantastic cast and some of the best talent this country boasts working on it,” said FSM executive producer Steve Dunn.
“We’re thrilled an Aussie film that FSM played an important role in has such a huge release in China.”
For ten years, Chinese orphan Mei Mei dreams of meeting her Australian sponsor - Dean Randall - and his 'perfect family'. At 16, when her orphanage travels to Australia Mei Mei takes the opportunity to look him up. What she finds is far from the idyllic life he depicted in his postcards.
The work FSM completed on 33 Postcards included all data management of the large Red camera shoot. Conform and colour correction of the final edit, visual effects, titles, subtitles and final DCP delivery materials. All made more complicated because of the two versions – English and Mandarin.
Principal photography took two months with a further 16 weeks of post production.
Since its screening at the Melbourne International Film Festival in July, 33 Postcards has been announced as ‘In Competition’ for the Asia Pacific Screen Awards 2011 and has been selected for other major international film festivals.
The film stars Emmy Award winning actor Guy Pearce, Claudia Karvan and Zhu Lin as Mei Mei. 33 Postcards will be released in Australia in November 2011.
