TigerSpike secures $11 million equity financing from Aegis Media
TigerSpike, the leading provider of multi-platform, personal media technology solutions has completed an $11 million minority equity financing round from Aegis Media. The funding will accelerate TigerSpike’s growth plans, expand its product group and extend its reach into new markets, particularly Asia-Pacific.
As part of the agreement, TigerSpike will leverage Aegis’ existing global network as it expands from its hub offices in Sydney, London and New York.
TigerSpike Asia-Pacific managing director Alex Burke said: "The investment is a significant milestone in TigerSpike’s history, as it will enable us to achieve our growth plans outside of Australia and further our product development arm.
“We’re committed to delivering best in class services for our clients, connecting organisations and audiences in a meaningful and relevant way through personal media devices. We are excited to build on our reputation as industry experts as we push the boundaries into new markets. The additional funds will provide the platform for that development."
Deloitte Technology Fast 50 has recognised TigerSpike in its list since 2007, testament to the company’s ongoing growth and industry leadership.
“The hyper-growth in mobile media adoption globally is creating tremendous opportunities for all organisations to more effectively engage with a growing number of connected users any time, any place, on any device,” said Jerry Buhlmann, CEO of Aegis Group plc.
“We have been impressed by the company’s technology, people, and rapid growth in the marketplace. The quality of the user experience delivered by TigerSpike is second to none - just look at The Economist iPad app!”
Launched in Australia in 2003, TigerSpike’s clients include Woolworths, Vodafone, Telstra, Diageo, SBS, The Economist, NewsCorp, ResMed and World Wildlife Fund.
TigerSpike provides mobile and personal media strategy, design and multi-platform development for clients in the media, telecommunications, retail, not-for-profit, government and professional industries.
TigerSpike is able to deliver a compelling value proposition to its clients through its proprietary service delivery platform, Phoenix. Phoenix is a cloud-based software that enables companies to rapidly deploy content and services across a broad range of personal media devices in an effective and engaging way.
TigerSpike’s personal media technology can be used to improve productivity, increase sales, enhance brand identity, improve consumer experiences, deliver location and contextually relevant information, deepen engagement and reduce costs for both consumer and employee audiences.
Burke added: “The number of mobiles sold exceeded PC’s in the first quarter of 2011, and recently it was announced that mobile app usage has now exceeded an individual’s web browsing time. CMOs and CIOs are starting to recognise that their customers and staff are demanding better experiences across multiple devices at home and work. The challenges of multi device fragmentation will only increase as the market keeps evolving at lightning speed. The message is clear – get on board and fast.”

What is Personal Media?
Personal media encompasses the growing range of personal devices from mobile phones to tablets, portable and home gaming consoles, and eBook readers. Using these devices, companies and brands can communicate with consumers like never before – personally. With that in mind, content delivery on each device is treated very differently. The power of personal media technology can be used to improve productivity, increase sales, enhance brand identity, improve consumer experiences, deliver location and contextually relevant information, deepen engagement and reduce costs for both consumer and employee audiences.
Why is Personal Media so important?
The rapid pace at which personal media has developed, has created new opportunities and new challenges for a broad range of companies. Publishers, media companies and application developers are eager to know whether they should optimise their content for particular devices. Brands and advertisers want to understand how these devices might fit into their overall marketing strategy. Carriers want to know how to evolve their business models for a data driven multi-device connected world. Device manufacturers need to understand how consumers are using connected devices (inside and outside of the home) so they can improve their products, fine-tune their marketing and win the battle for market share. Organizations are wondering how they can use personal media to improve communication and workflow, reduce cost, foster smarter working environments and even be the carrier for company values.
