The AYO String Quartet strums into Benalla for an unforgettable once-only performance

The Australian Youth Orchestra's Regional Residencies String Quartet will be making an anticipated visit to Benalla next month to perform a special once-only concert, as part of the AYO's esteemed Regional Residencies program.

The concert will be conducted by renowned music educator, Richard Gill, and held on Thursday 7th April at 5.30pm at the striking and modern Benalla Arts Gallery. The Benalla public is welcome to attend and admission is by donation.

The AYO Regional Residencies String Quartet features four of Australia's most gifted young classical musicians specially selected to participate in the Regional Residencies program, which nurtures the fine talents of students and offers them the opportunity to experience what it's like to be part of a professional touring ensemble.

The program will allow the four young string musicians to experience touring while being tutored by cellist Michelle Wood from the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and Tin Alley Quartet.

The participants also tutor young local musicians in each regional area they perform.

The AYO Regional Residencies String Quartet will also perform at the Montsalvat Barn Gallery and Castlemaine State Festival, one of regional Victoria's most prestigious arts festivals.

The AYO CEO Colin Cornish said: "Not only will the Benalla audience experience the talent and passion of these young musicians, but in turn, the musicians will encounter first-hand the depth of musical skill and dedication required to become a professional touring musician."

Having performed in 2010 at the BBC proms, led by world-renowned conductor Sir Mark Elder, the AYO is known for delivering performances well above their years. According to Musicalcriticism.com, €œthe AYO matched the ranks of professional orchestras for interpretative skill, dedication, and poise, whilst exceeding them, even, in passion".

Since its inception in 1999, the AYO Regional Residencies program has visited 41 regional communities across the country, with more than 1,500 young regional music students actively involved.
