Starcom MediaVest Group names Australian CEO John Sintras Chairman of its Global Product Committee

Starcom MediaVest Group (SMG) has named Australian CEO, John Sintras, as chairman of its Global Product Committee (GPC) in addition to his CEO responsibilities in Australia.

SMG’s GPC is an internal operating body of 24 members across the international network that aims to maintain and enhance the highest standard of work across SMG’s 110 global offices.

This group will contribute expert guidance on SMG’s product for both client-facing work and internal talent as part of a two-year term lasting until the end of 2012.

To help manage the team alongside Sintras, SMG has also named Mark Hamilton, head of strategy and development for SMG Middle East and North Africa, as the deputy chair in conjunction with his normal leadership role. In addition to Sintras and Hamilton, the GPC also includes 22 additional senior-level executives from SMG offices around the world including China, India, Mexico, Poland, Portugal, Singapore, Sweden, the UK and US.

“John and Mark are uniquely equipped to lead Starcom MediaVest Group’s global product at a time when there are many possibilities and opportunities ready to be seized,” said Starcom MediaVest Group CEO Laura Desmond. “Their work is consistently honoured as some of the best, most creative programs, not only within our network, but across the entire industry. 2010 was a banner year for SMG and both John and Mark played a significant role in that accomplishment.”

In 2010, SMG was one of the most decorated media agency networks in the world earning over seven Media Federation Awards, Grand Prix Awards or “Campaign of the Year” including Media & Marketing (M&M) Awards, Dubai Lynx, Internationalist Awards, Internationalist Digital Awards, and with partner agencies at the North American EFFIES and Spikes Asia in addition to numerous other honours including Cannes Lions.

Incoming GPC jury chairman John Sintras said: “2010 was a year to celebrate, but I think we’ve only begun to glimpse the true impact this product-focused body can have in elevating our thinking and product around the world.”

The newly assembled GPC has a three-fold purpose: to benchmark and optimize product performance, provide inspiration and training to the worldwide network and recognise and reward people for their successes.

The GPC is also responsible for facilitating SMG’s annual ONE AWARDS, an internal awards program honoring the global network’s best work of the year as well as producing SMG’s major global awards submissions and training employees on how to create best-in-class work.
