Fairfax Media scoops the pool at PANPA Newspaper of the Year Awards
Fairfax Media last night scooped the pool at the Pacific Area Newspaper Publishers’ Association (PANPA) Awards, carrying off the three major newspaper awards of the evening.
The Sydney Morning Herald scored the highest accolade at the awards, winning Newspaper of the Year, for the second year in a row.
The Sun-Herald beat off strong competition to be named Sunday Newspaper of the Year, while The Canberra Times picked up the major regional newspaper award, winning Newspaper of the Year in the 25,000 to 90,000 circulation category.
In the non-daily newspaper categories Fairfax also scored two significant regional wins, with Newspaper of the Year going to The Land (25,000 – 90,000 circulation), and The Hawkesbury Gazette (0 - 10,000 circulation).
Overall, Fairfax won 18 awards at last night’s event.

The PANPA Awards recognise excellence in newspapers, websites, photography, marketing and excellence in print and production and received entries from the Asia-Pacific region.
Fairfax Media was recognised at PANPA this year across both print and digital, scoring an impressive total of 85 finalists in the awards including masthead websites and the new iPad and iPhone apps for Sport&Style magazine and MyCareer.
In the News Site of the Year category, theage.com.au received a highly commended citation, while in the Branding category, the iPad Sport&Style app was also highly commended.
