Steggles and Sydney Roosters reach over $200,000 for Australian children's charities!

In one of the NRL’s most innovative and inspiring sponsorships, Steggles and the Sydney Roosters have now raised over $200,000 through their Charity Nest this season. This incredible milestone was achieved following the team’s convincing win on Saturday night against the Parramatta Eels.

The Charity Nest sees Steggles donate $1000 for every point the Sydney Roosters beat their opposition by in the 2010 season, with Sydney Roosters also contributing $250 a point.

Tonight’s extraordinary 48 points to 12 win over Parramatta saw a huge contribution of $45,000 into the Charity Nest, taking the total for the 2010 season to $243,750. Steggles and the Roosters donated $10,000 of those winnings to the Schizophrenia Foundation, the charitable cause which the Jack Gibson Cup, played for the third season between the Eels and Roosters, supports.

“It’s been an extraordinary season so far – both for the Steggles Charity Nest and the Sydney Roosters. The Roosters have had good performances on the field, but off the field it’s also been exciting. We have organised player visits to our charities and the response from the children and their families, makes our association with the Sydney Roosters even more meaningful,” said Steggles Managing Director, John Camilleri.

Sydney Roosters CEO Steve Noyce added: “When Steggles approached us about this initiative we were delighted to be involved and through our combined contribution we have really been able to make a difference. It has also been a great commitment by the players.”

The sizeable donation is due to a strong season performance by the Sydney Roosters who have silenced any critics and positioned them well for a spot in the finals series.

The Charity Nest is part of the sponsorship agreement between Steggles and the Sydney Roosters, and the money will be equally divided between charities including Children’s Cancer Institute of Australia, Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service, Camp Quality, Lifestart, Autism SA, Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation (Working Wonders) and Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation in Perth.

Steggles and the Sydney Roosters will also be hosting a Charity Week in August, with a special week-long program of fundraising activities to further help the charities.
