Creative Sydney reveals creative leaders for unique 10x10 PROJECT


Some of Sydney’s most respected creative minds, including Sass & Bide’s Sarah Jane Clarke and Heidi Middleton, Dinosaur Designs co-founder Liane Rossler, and film critic Margaret Pomeranz, have contributed to an inspiring online project for Creative Sydney called the 10x10 PROJECT: www.theloop.com.au/creativesydney/10x10.

Launching on June 4, and prepared from nominations gathered in the lead up to Creative Sydney’s program of free discussions and presentations at the MCA, the 10x10 PROJECT invites 10 creative leaders to each introduce 10 Sydney-based creatives who inspire their own outstanding work, drawing from film, fashion, music, performance, media, events, architecture, design, advertising and technology.

Curators for 2010 are:

Liane Rossler – co-founder of Dinosaur Designs, Green Ups and the Pacific Islands Projects

Margaret Pomeranz – one of Australia’s most respected Australian film critics

Ross Dawson – futurist and entrepreneur his blog Trends in the Living Networks is ranked as one of the top business blogs in the world

Sixty40 – Mark Simpson and Matt Taylor are founders of this award-winning animation powerhouse

Rob Hirst – musician, songwriter and founding member of Midnight Oil

Chris Bosse – architect, director of Laboratory for Visionary Architecture

Rhoda Roberts – producer and creative director of Sydney New Years Eve, and festival director, Garma Festival

Heidi Middleton and Sarah Jane-Clark (Sass&Bide) – founders of one of Australia’s most successful fashion labels

Lee Lewis – actor and director on- and off- Broadway and theatre in Sydney

Rebecca Carrasco – creative behind some of Australia’s most awarded ads, the world's top shows, and has been a regular award judge and industry speaker

“The 10x10 PROJECT is really about the power of personal recommendation, acknowledging outstanding creative work, and enabling entrepreneurs to build sustainable businesses in Sydney,” said Creative Sydney director Jess Scully.

Creative Sydney will be held over 10 days from June 5 – 13 with a program that boasts an inspiring series of professional development events and wide-ranging entertainment for the public.

Key elements to the Creative Sydney program include:

• Creative Futures: involves 15 presentations in five different sessions, on the future of the creative industries. Visitors can rsvp for one or all of the sessions. A major highlight will be the ‘Network and Clusters’ presentation that will reveal where creative communities work and live in Sydney using bespoke GPS-based research. (Saturday June 5)

• Sydney Sessions: six one-off nighttime performances produced by remarkable mixes of creative disciplines. Participants include Even Books, Parades, Cameras, Dorkbot and lots more. (Monday June 7 – Saturday June 12)

• Creative Connections: a day for focused networking and an opportunity to connect with the organisations and support structures that help creative people and businesses reach their full potential. A highlight on this day is The Big Debate “Is Sydney falling behind or leading the way?” (Saturday June 12)

• Panel discussions: five thought-provoking evening sessions covering Creative For a Cause; Local Talent/Global Market; Creative/Commercial; The New Niche and Making it Happen.

• Wrap Party: Featuring some of Sydney’s best bands, performers and DJs (Cloud Control, The Paper Scissors, Songs, Shady Lane, Seekae, Richard In Your Mind, Pivot (PVT) DJ) – this free music event will be held on the final night of Creative Sydney. The ‘Wrap Party’ will be supported by FBi radio, so tune in at home to be part of this unique live music experience or register to attend the party in the MCA Foundation Hall. (Sunday June 13).

Creative Sydney is part of Vivid Sydney (27 May – 21 June), the city’s annual festival of light, music and ideas, and the largest festival of its kind in Australia and the Southern Hemisphere.

Last year was Creative Sydney’s inaugural year, and the program attracted around 9,000 people, this year Creative Sydney expects to engage with over 15,000 creators and fans.
